Marvel still hasn't allowed Tom Holland to watch Black Widow yet. Holland isn't alone - audiences have been waiting for Scarlet Johansson's first MCU solo feature for years. It was originally set to hit theaters in May 2020, but, like many other films, was delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic. After a few more moves around the release calendar, Black Widow is currently slated to be released on May 7, 2021, a year after its original release date, but it's still unclear if the film will even make that date.

Black Widow is directed by Cate Shortland and explores Natasha Romanoff's activities after she is forced to go on the run at the end of Captain America: Civil War. David Harbour, Rachel Weisz, and Florence Pugh are all set to star as figures from Natasha's past and Pugh is rumored to reprise her role of Yelena Belova in future MCU projects, including Hawkeye. Speculation as to the film's release has led many to wonder if Black Widow will hit Disney+, but as of right now it seems like Marvel is set on a theatrical release date.

At least audiences aren't the only ones suffering. Holland told SR that Marvel still hasn't let him see Black Widow and it isn't for a lack of trying on Holland's part. The Spider-Man actor says that he has asked to view the film, bothering Marvel in recent weeks in the hopes they'll set up a screening. Marvel has yet to do so and Holland finishes by calling out to Marvel in the hopes that, if they're listening, they'll finally let him see the film.

We've been pestering Marvel for weeks to see if they'll set up a screening for Black Widow for us, but they they haven't. If you're watching, Marvel sort it out because we want to watch!

Black Widow

Holland has been known to play fast and loose with spoilers in the past. While the actor has gotten better at protecting Marvel's biggest secrets, including whether or not Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield will be reprising their Spider-Man roles in Spider-Man: No Way Home, it sounds like Marvel is holding on to Black Widow for fear of revealing anything. On the surface, it may not seem like Black Widow has much to do with the events of Phase 4, but seeing as the film was intended to kick off the next series of Marvel projects before its delay, it's possible the studio lays some important groundwork in the film.

If that is the case, Marvel needs to stick with Black Widow's release date. It's understandable that the studio wants to hold on to a theatrical release for the film, the further it gets pushed back, the more Marvel runs the risk of Black Widow getting stale. Marvel is introducing a whole new slate of characters and projects in the coming months and with Natasha Romanoff out of the picture, Black Widow could become a relic of the past. Still, it doesn't seem like fans will forsake the film entirely as it will be the first theatrical MCU experience in more than a year. It's just a matter of when.
