Spurs open talks over ‘one of the most underrated players in Italy’ for £30m

Tottenham Hotspur have been busy over the last two transfer windows, with Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou wasting no time in bolstering his ranks.

Indeed, Tottenham were one of the few Premier League clubs that were particularly active during the January window, with many others doing little business due to FFP constraints.

Now, with the summer transfer window on the horizon, Spurs could well be busy once again following a decent enough maiden season for Postecoglou.

And one player Tottenham are now reportedly in talks over ahead of a potential move has been deemed “one of the most underrated players in Italy”.

The player in question is Alessandro Buongiorno, one of Torino’s stalwarts and a senior Italy international.

According to Calciomercato, Spurs have made contact with the Granata to understand the costs of a move for the 24-year-old.

The report also claims that Torino president Urbano Cairo wants €35million for Buongiorno, the same as what he was after back in January.

Tottenham’s approach for the Italian has proven a spanner in the works of AC Milan and Napoli, for whom it’s ‘never easy’ to compete with English clubs.

Who is Tottenham Hotspur target Alessandro Buongiorno?

Buongiorno is a boyhood Torino fan who joined their youth setup aged seven and has been on their books for the entirety of his career thus far.

The 6ft 3in defender took in loans at fellow Italian clubs Carpi and Trapani before returning to Torino in 2020/21 and becoming a regular.

Buongiorno has made 105 competitive appearances for Torino and has been lauded for his reading of the game, his aerial prowess, his aggressive play and his threat from set pieces.

Football Talent Scout‘s Jacek Kulig has described him as “one of the most underrated players in Italy”, “one of the most interesting centre-backs in Serie A” and a “remarkable” player.

Tottenham have struck gold many times in the Italian market in recent years. Now, let’s see whether Buongiorno will say ‘good day’ to Spurs in the summer.
