World Cup star’s father claims agent ‘finalising’ January transfer as Celtic chase exciting deal

Celtic want Cho Gue-sung and his father has indicated that a transfer to Europe is imminent for the Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors striker.

The Bhoys have already snapped up both Yuki Kobayashi and Alistair Johnston ahead of the January transfer window.

Celtic may now need to go and find another striker given that there are question marks over the future of Giorgos Giakoumakis.

A physical centre forward with aerial ability would be ideal to offer a change of style from Kyogo Furuhashi and Celtic appear to have found one.

Celtic want Cho Gue-sung

The Scottish Sun reported last week that Celtic have made Jeonbuk Hyundai Motros striker Cho Gue-sung a key target for January.

Cho impressed at the World Cup for South Korea, scoring two fine headers in a 3-2 defeat to Ghana.

Cho’s aerial ability was outstanding and no player has won more aerial duels at the World Cup than Cho with 33.

The 24-year-old is seen as a major part of South Korea’s future and a move to Europe seems only natural.

Celtic have signed South Korean players before in Cha Du-ri and Ki Sung-yueng, whilst they have moved into the Japanese market for Kyogo, Reo Hatate, Daizen Maeda, Yosuke Ideguchi and the aforementioned Kobayashi.

Celtic have proven to be a great home for Asian players and Cho should be interested in a move to Parkhead.

Cho’s father Cho Chae-hwan has now been quoted by The Herald as saying that he wants to see his son join a team where the style suits his game, rather than just joining a big team for name value.

Cho added that the striker’s agent is already ‘finalising negotiations’ regarding a transfer abroad and he will ‘certainly’ move to Europe soon.

“The advice I have given my son is when he signs for a team abroad, go to a club that can play the way he likes, rather than choosing a club because they are a big name,” said Cho. “He needs a club that will help him adapt and settle down to a new lifestyle on and off the pitch.”

“I know his agent is in the process of finalising negotiations regarding his transfer overseas. He will certainly go to Europe. Ahead of the World Cup, I told him that this was a tournament that he had to show everyone what he could do on the pitch and I think he did that. He has had a great time at the World Cup and I am certainly very proud of him,” he added.

Celtic fans will now have major hope that Cho will choose a move to Glasgow and quickly become Ange Ppstecoglou’s third January signing before the window is even open.
