지금까지의 가야사 연구에서는 伴跛의 정체를 加羅 즉 대가야로 지목해 왔다. 그렇게 본 근거는 『일본서기』 계체 7년~9년 조까지의 기사가 계체 23년 조에 가라가 등장하는 기사와 동일한 사건이라는 데 착안하였다. 세부적인 근거로서는 양쪽 기사에 등장하는 인물들의 연관성을 제시했다. 그리고 伴跛는 「梁職貢圖」에서 백제의 ‘旁小國’으로 등장하는 9國의 한 곳인 ‘叛波’와 동일하다고 보았다. 伴跛와 叛波는 모두 加羅에 대한 貶稱이라는 것이다. 그러나 伴跛와 半路와의 연관성은 확인되지 않았다. 금석문이나 原史料 인용이나 당시 발언 등을 제외하고는 異稱이 아닌 貶稱이 사용된 사례는 찾아보기 어려웠다. 그러므로 伴跛를 加羅의 폄칭으로 간주하는 견해는 수긍하기 어려웠다. 『일본서기』 계체기에 보이는 伴跛의 烽燧 설치 기사는 전라북도 장수 지역과의 연관성을 지녔다. 즉 加羅와의 관련성은 찾아 보기 어려웠다. 「양직공도」에 보이는 ‘旁小國’에 속한 叛波는 伴跛가 분명하였다. 그런데 叛波를 비롯한 이들 소국들은 중국으로부터 책봉된 바 없었다. 그러나 加羅王은 479년에 南齊로부터 ‘輔國將軍·本國王’을 제수받았다. 이처럼 중국 황제로부터 책봉된 加羅가 백제 ‘곁의 소국’이요, 백제에 ‘의지하는’, 그리고 附庸된 ‘旁小國’의 叛波일 수는 없다.
In a study of Gaya history(加耶史) so far, the identity of small country Banpa(伴跛) has been pointed out as Kara(加羅) or Dae Gaya. The rationale for this is that the article from the 7th to 9th year of the book “Nihon Shoki(日本書紀)” a chronicle Geithai was the same as the article from the 23rd year of the Geithai. For detailed reasons, the two articles presented a link between the characters. And Banpa saw it as the same as Banfa(叛波), a place in nine countries that appeared as the” small country of Baekje” in “Liangzhigongtu(梁職貢圖)”. Banpa and Banfa are both disparaging about Kara. However, the link between Banpa and Banro(半路) has not been confirmed. It was difficult to find cases in which disparaging was used other than records on stones and metal materials or basic feed quotes or remarks made at the time. Thus the view to regard Banpa as the disparaging of Kara was hard to accept. In the Nihon Shoki Geithai section, an article that installed a device for Banpa to contact by raising a fire had a connection with Changsu(長水) area in Jeollabuk-do. In other words, it was hard to find any connection with Kara. Banfa, who belongs to a small country next to Baekje, was clearly Banpa. By the way, Banfa and these small countries were never appointed by the Chinese emperor. However, in 479, Kara King was expelled from Namje(南齊) for the ‘Bokuk-General·Bonkuk-king(輔國將軍·本國王)’. The Kara appointed by the Chinese emperor cannot be the Banfa of the small kingdom of the Baekje Kingdom, which is subordinate to the Baekje Kingdom.
