Sergio Aguero has confirmed he has tested positive for Covid-19.
The Manchester City striker has missed City's last four fixtures after being forced to isolate having come into contact with someone who tested positive for the virus, despite initially testing negative himself.
However, now Aguero has confirmed he has contracted the virus himself as a result of that close contact, which will keep him out of action for at least ten days as per the government guidelines for isolation.
That means he will miss the FA Cup trip to Cheltenham, and the Premier League fixtures against West Brom and Sheffield United.
Taking to Twitter, Aguero confirmed he had also picked up some symptoms of the virus, saying: "After a close contact, I've been self-isolating and the latest test I took was positive for COVID 19. I had some symptoms and I'm following doctor's orders for recovery. Take care, everyone!"
Before the win over Aston Villa on Wednesday, manager Pep Guardiola said he did not know when Aguero would be back, despite the fixture coming ten days after his initial isolation was first announced.
Aguero was close to a return from injury at the start of the year, coming through substitute appearances vs Arsenal Newcastle and Chelsea unscathed. However, his isolation and now positive test have set him back further.
The striker has played just nine times this season, with only three starts, as his recovery from knee surgery has been hampered on multiple occasions.
Guardiola has warned against rushing players back from Covid due to the unknowns regarding the long-term recovery of players, having seen nine players test positive over the new year period, plus four members of staff, an academy player and four women's players.
