Nottingham Forest have had a bid accepted by Bordeaux for attacker Hwang Ui-jo, according to Get French Football News. The Reds have beaten Wolves to the signature of the player who plays for the South Korea national team.

Forest have had a bid of £3.4 million accepted and they’ve also agreed to pay Bordeaux a further £800,000 in the way of add-ons. The player will now travel to England to undergo a medical.

Hwang looks like an intriguing signing. He’s one that hasn’t cost the earth and he should add some real competition to Steve Cooper’s attacking ranks over the next season.

The 29-year-old signed for the French outfit in 2019. He joined from Gamba Osaka in Japan and has been a mainstay in the team since arriving in Europe.

In three years with the club, he’s made 97 appearances. During that time, he’s scored 29 goals and laid on a further seven in the way of assists.

During 2021/22 he played 33 times for Bordeaux as they were relegated from the top flight. He scored 11 goals and played most of his football as a centre-forward.

The report claims that Hwang is keen on the move to sign for Forest. The Reds faced competition from Wolves, Fulham and Nantes before agreeing on a deal with his current club.

Former Bordeaux coach Jean-Louis Gasset is a big fan of Hwang. He called him ‘wonderful’ in 2021.

Forest bid accepted for Hwang and it looks an intriguing deal

With Emmanuel Dennis likely to sign from Watford, it does look as though Hwang will be the man to provide some backup.

He comes to the City Ground with experience at the top level and it will be interesting to see how he does in the Premier League.

This move might help Forest get some players out of the club. Lyle Taylor will be allowed to leave and this could also let Forest hook Alex Mighten up with a loan.

Hwang will obviously have to prove himself in the Premier League. He might have to do that from the bench but with 37 games to play, he should get ample game time.

This deal could be done pretty quickly and it will be interesting to see how he gets on at the City Ground.
