Jazz Chisholm, born in Nassau, Bahamas, made his Major League Baseball debut for the Miami Marlins on Wednesday, 2 September. Chisholm batted ninth and played shortstop in the game, which the Marlins lost, 2-1, against the Toronto Blue Jays.
Prior to breaking into the big leagues and signing with the Arizona Diamondbacks in July 2015, Chisholm played in 315 Minor League Baseball (MiLB) games and appeared in 11 games for the Caguas Criollos of the Puerto Rico Winter League.
Jasrado Hermis Arrington, better known as Jazz, Chisholm was born in 1998.
The Diamondbacks traded him to the Miami Marlins on 31 July 2019 to acquire pitcher Zac Gallen.
Chrisholm is the seventh player born in the Bahamas to make his MLB debut. He follows shortstop Andre Rogers (April 1957; he died in 2004 at 70 years of age), left-handed outfielder Tony Curry (April 1960; he died at 68 in 2006), outfielder Ed Armbrister (August 1973; he was born in 1948. After his baseball career, he went back to the Bahamas and worked as a craps table croupier. He later became a consultant for the Ministry of Sports and managed the Junior National Team. He also became a top-level softball player), right-handed pitcher Wenty Ford (September 1973; he died in a car crash in 1980 when he was only 33), right fielder and slugger Wil Culmer (April 1983; he died at age 45 in 2003) and Antoan Richardson (September 2011; born 1983, he is the current first base coach of the San Francisco Giants).
